Look-alike Meter 2013

When Yui was a year old, we tried this online Look-alike meter to settle “disputes” on who she looks like more. ย And this was what we got:

And now ย after 3 years, we tried the meter again to see if there’s a change since Yui’s grown up from the last time. The verdict is…

Maybe that’s why there’s still mixed opinions on who Yui looks like more, because it might depend on what angle you are looking at, if she’s having a bad hair day or just being a cutie patootie. ๐Ÿ™‚

This month marks my blog’s third year anniversary. I wouldn’t have remembered if WordPress did not greet me. ๐Ÿ™‚

Lucky Three! :)

Lucky Three! ๐Ÿ™‚

Wow, I can’t believe I lasted this long (I think this is the longest blog I’ve kept). I’ve posted a lot of personal thoughts, adventures and Yui stories in this blog, but to commemorate my third anniversary, here’s my top 3 most favorite posts.

Things I’m Grateful For: Feel Good Friday Edition

I just read an article from Mashable about Patrick Stewart’s Heartfelt Response to Domestic Violence. Linking to it is the tumblr post of Heather Skye, the girl who asked Sir Patrick Stewart the question.

For some reason, I was all tears when I was reading both posts. Not just the teary eyed type but tears actually flowed. I don’t know why I was deeply affected, I didn’t know any of them personally nor was I a victim of domestic violence.

Weekly Photo Challenge: From Above

Comment 1 Standard

Welcome May! I feel so good to finally be back after my April hiatus. It has been a manic April month and I can’t wait to look down on all those work like they’re teeny tiny ants just marching by. Looking down. From Above. So timely with this week’s photo challenge: From Above.

Shadow Hearts

Walking along the path way, hand in hand with you

I see our shadows dancing, shadows of us two

And on this bright sunny day, both of us played

Played with our shadows, our hands, our hearts

Standing from above here, looking down on us

All my love for you will forever last

Yui may still be too young to count money but we think it’s never too late to teach her the value of it. Ever since she was little we made it a point not to spoil her with toys and other unnecessary things. Lately we would occasionally window shop at a local toy store and every time Yui points at a toy I would say that it’s too expensive. She would move on and content herself in looking at the other toys then watch video clips of these toys in Youtube when we get home. Thankfully, she doesn’t throw tantrums when she don’t get what she wants. We just explain that these are too expensive and that we don’t have budget to buy.

I was pleasantly surprised then that she took this learning in other things and not just with toys.

Yui-ism #1:

Since the start of the year, she would tell us that she wanted to have a birthday party at Burger King (because she loves the playground at the BK near our house). One time we talked to her and told her that we couldn’t afford a BK party. She would have to pick a cheaper place to celebrate. The next day, she told us that she wants to have her birthday at McDonald’s. When we asked why, she said because Burger King is too expensive. Haha! Fast learner ๐Ÿ˜›

Yui-ism #2:

I recently bought her a new rash guard for our upcoming beach outings. I wanted a long-sleeved one and she wanted Dora. Good thing there was something that fits both our requirements. However, it is somewhat costly, same as an adult’s swimwear. She knew it was “expensive” so she was thrilled to have it and said she would take care of it.

Yui-ism #3:

Sometimes we would make homemade jelly made from gelatin mix we buy from the grocery. One night Yui was looking at the ice tray which we use to mold the gelatin and she said, “Mommy, when we have enough money can we buy gelatin so we can make jellies?” That’s really when I thought that this girl is now used to not having everything she wants.

I hope we’re on the right track… ๐Ÿ™‚

Work Life Balance

Leave a comment Standard

My top career priority ever since I had a family has always been work-life balance. So I take every opportunity I have to take some time off from work.ย Late last year up until the end of January, I’ve been very busy at work preparing our team for a huge company-wide audit interview. I’ve been coming home late and promised myself that once this audit is complete I would go on leave. Which is precisely what I did.

Last week, my mom went on a week-long Singapore trip to visit my brother so I had to work from home since no one will babysit Yui. Despite the hectic schedule of attending meetings, cooking lunch and dinner, bathing Yui and putting her to sleep in the afternoons before going back to meetings, it was really fun and fulfilling!ย I took Thursday and Friday off to concentrate on looking after Yui and to have some QT (quality time) together. ๐Ÿ˜‰

Because daddy bunny had to report to work, it was a two-day mother daughter bonding session. We started our Valentine’s Day by going to the mall as we needed to buy new formal shoes for Yui. When she was smaller, she hated getting new shoes since she insisted that she still has (those she was wearing) but now that she’s growing up to be a kikay girl, she enjoyed shopping already. Good luck to daddy! Haha!

Good thing she just tried those shoes on but didn’t insist on buying them. We got the formal shoes and that’s it. Yay for daddy!

We had to cut our mall tour short to attend her 1PM class and the birthday celebration of her classmate. It’s been a long time since I went with her to school and it was so much fun celebrating a birthday, catching up with other moms and watching the kids play and shriek to their delight!

Daddy bunny planned to take Friday off but had to attend a very important meeting that day so it was Yui and mommy once again. This time we spent a quick playtime at the Quezon City Memorial Circle. Within an hour, we were able to ride the go kart, some arcade rides and play at the fountain area. I’m really thankful that there’s a place we can bring Yui to play around – with very wide space, lots of trees, a huge playground and DIRTY ICE CREAM! ๐Ÿ™‚

The nice sunset caps off my week perfectly. It was one of those times where you don’t have to spend a lot and go somewhere far to have fun. As long as I have an active and happy kid with me, I’m good. ๐Ÿ™‚
